2009 Flu Pandemic Predictions – What we can expect in autumn and winter of 2009
September 18, 2009 – 12:15 am | No Comment

swine h1n1At the time of writing no one on the world does not know or does not want to tell if you trust the conspiracy theories according to which the A/H1N1 is made in laboratories and deliberately let out to reduce the world’s population. So far the people that died after being infected with swine flu are reported having suffering from other chronic conditions or had been otherwise weakened. The number of infected people is rapidly rising and the WHO announced that it would stop tracking swine flu cases and deaths around the world.

swine h1n1 -1The swine flu pandemic is a fact and the spread of virus will probably reach its peak during autumn and winter in 2009. It is hard to tell how many people will be infected and impossible to predict its mortality rate because it remains unclear whether the virus will mutate or undergo reassortment. Since swine flu virus strain is a subtype of influenza virus A  which is characterized by rapid genetic mutations there is a great probability that the virus will continue to evolve. How the virus will behave in the future is at the moment of writing unknown but there are only two possibilities. In worst case scenario the swine flu virus will mutate into a more deadly and virulent strain which could have even more devastating effect that the Spanish flu that was caused by influenza A virus subtype H1N1 and killed 50 million predominantly healthy and young adults. The mortality rate of the Spanish flu pandemic is estimated to be 2,5% to 5% globally. If the 2009 A/H1N1 would evolve in a such deadly strain it could kill 175 to 350 million of people worldwide.

The second form in which the swine flu virus might mutate to is a relatively mild strain which would had a mortality rate similar to seasonal flue which is about 0,1% of those infected. In this case swine flu would kill about 250,000 to 500,000 people globally mostly juvenile, elderly and otherwise weakened people.
