Many people are entirely unfamiliar with beach etiquette.  This is perfectly normal, given that the beach wedding is a relatively new way to celebrate a marriage.  In most cases, beach wedding etiquette respects the traditions of a classic ceremony; for instance, when it comes to the way people are seated.  In this aspect, there is no need to make a major change.

Nevertheless, there are some aspects of the wedding that will differ from the one that is celebrated in a traditional church.  For example, you should not expect to have an aisle for the bride to walk down.  It is therefore often necessary to find an alternative to this, or maybe even to create a new tradition altogether.  You should keep in mind that a beach is a wide-open space and that it is a public place.  Expect to have some strangers or even dogs inviting themselves to the ceremony.

In essence, beach wedding protocol is more concerned with practical ways to organize the wedding than with respecting all of the traditions.  For instance, you should not expect guests to walk on the beach in dress shoes.  Beach etiquette will allow for people to be barefoot, unless you decide to provide some carpet for the wedding area.

Beach wedding etiquette also expects you to provide water for each of your guest – and you may even plan a break in the middle of the ceremony.  It makes no difference whether you are providing alcoholic drinks.  Many people also offer bottled water to the guests during the event.  A good idea would be to have coolers so that the water remains cold and refreshing.

Beach wedding etiquette also encourages guests to bring mosquito repellant to protect themselves.  Alternatively, you can make provision for mosquito repellant as soon as they arrive for the ceremony.

Other major etiquette concerns at a beach wedding are flowers, hairstyles and food.  These items are all vulnerable to heat, so it is important to care for them adequately.

These are a few things that may be different from a traditional wedding.  In short, you should not worry about all the traditions, but rather focus on ways to make your wedding the most exciting day of your life.  After all, it is your wedding and you should do as you please.
