The iPhone: not just for teenagers
The iPhone is everywhere it seems. From the hands of the person next to you on the train to the giant advertising hording you pass in the car every day. A huge advertising budget has gone on promoting the iPhone, and it seems to be working. It’s sales are very strong despite the economy, and with applications and software being added everyday it is likely to be a mainstay of the mobile phone market for a long time to come.
But the Apple brand and the ‘i’ brand in particular is certainly a young persons brand. It is seen as a edgy teenage style market rather than one that appeals to older generations. With the likes of iPod and iMac reinforcing this it comes as no surprise to discover that the iPhone is a massive hit with teenagers and twenty something, but adoption of the technology by those over the age of 30.
This statistic is changing though, with business people and casual users alike waking up to the uses and functionality that the iPhone can bring to them. The iPhone isn’t just a brand, but a powerful tool that can really help people.
How the iPhone is helping people
Apple pulled a masterstroke by allowing the application development platform to be open. Because of that huge swathes of people and companies are jumping on board the application development process, turning out a wide selection of applications that appeal to a broad range of people, from the daft but fun light saber app to the much more functional CRM software that numerous sales people use in their sales processes.
Away from the gimmicky games and toys that appeal to teenagers there are some real applications that can help people in their day to day lives. For example there are weather apps that allow a forecast to be seen instantly on your phone, allowing you to plan for the day. Other useful applications developed include Google map with GPS plotting, letting you always see where you are – and even a function that allows you to see the location of other people with an iPhone and a certain app – perfect for parents who are worried about their kids.
More than just a basic mobile phone
Obviously the iPhone works well as a basic mobile phone, but the added applications add a different dimension to how the iPhone can be used. With other benefits including proper 3G Internet access (rather than WAP sites) and synchronization with the Microsoft Exchange email servers allowing you to access your email via the handset the iPhone is really starting to change how people are seeing the Apple brand.
The fact is that the iPhone is not just for teenagers anymore, it has uses and applications well outside that demographic. Yes the games and ‘cool factor’ associated with the phone will keep teenagers getting the phone whenever they can, but the power and functionality of the iPhone ensure that people from all age ranges and demographics are starting to see why the iPhone may well be the right one for them.

I have used iPhone for over an year.
Its a great device. I have never used a touchscreen interface phone, which is so easy to operate.
There are a plenty of aftermarket applications available as well., which makes it a perfect device.
Kudos Apple!!!!
I have been thinking about getting an ipod touch to play with it (I use the Blackberry Curve) as the phone and I love it.
