As you probably are aware, fishing is, no doubt, one of the first human activities on Earth. Catching fish is after all, a reliable source of food, and even nowadays, there are a lot of villages and small towns which are living due to this activity.

It has been more than 40 thousands years since fishing it is known to a be a human activity. Recent searches have found evidence that fishing was being practiced in order to provide food since the Paleolithic ages. How come? Well, the humans needed food and they soon discovered that fish was a reliable source. During this period, most people lived a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and were, of necessity, constantly on the move. Also, the archeologists found fish bones and paintings with ancient fishermen in the caves they have studied, so it’s quite obvious that fishing has been here, on Earth, forever, we could say.

For example let’s take Nile, river that has been fishing into for thousands of years and this practice it still continuing even nowadays. Another example should be the one of the Egyptians which developed different methods of catching fish. The proofs for this can be found in various/multiple tombs all over Egypt. You’ll be able to see if you go there painted and sculpted fishermen while catching their food, so this is, no wonder a proof. Also, in Europe, the Greeks developed also various methods of catching fish. For example, an ancient Greek author named Oppian of Corycus, wrote a major treatise on sea fishing, the Halieulica or Halieutika, composed between 177 and 180. In fact, if we study all the ancient civilizations, in all of them we’ll find written of real evidence that all of them were aware of the fishing techniques. Even the romans had knowledge about it (fact proven by their god Neptun), the Vikings, the Traces, the Huns, and all the Asian civilization were aware of this practice.

Do you wonder why? Well, because they needed to eat, to feed themselves. And if the land didn’t offer them anything, they changed their direction to the water. And the water provided all the food they wanted.

The fishing techniques are pretty the same as they used to be. People are still fishing with rod and tackle, arrows and harpoons, throw nets, and different sort of other nets. The techniques are the same even nowadays, even if the instruments evaluated a bit, but it is perfectly normal to happen like this. The mankind always has been searching for improving their life, so it is no wonder that even the fishing techniques evaluated among all the other things. Nowadays, you can go fishing with complicated instruments which, theoretical, will improve your chances of catching fish. Though, the joy of catching your prey wont be the same as it would be If you have used a regular fishing rod. That is the price we have to pay for evolution: more success, less happiness. This is good for the fisheries, but for the regular people who just wanted to have fun, I don’t know if it is so good.
