The Secret: How to Catch Fish During Winter
If you are reading this, it means that you are one of the guys or girl who likes fishing more than anything else. So, after a fine summer and autumn, in the end, it came the winter. How will you manage to go fishing if it is known the fact that fish don’t usually bite during winter? How will you do in order not to come home, after a few hours of freezing on the lake, with some prey? After all, I presume you wouldn’t like not to catch any fish, waste time and freezing while there are -10 C grades.
You must know that during winter, fish are not so hungry. Why? Because their metabolism is getting slower and they won’t burn the calories as they would do in the rest of the year. Also, some of them are already fed up with bait and other food they have received in order to come up. It is known that during winter, most of the fish are staying deep in the water, because down there, the water is a bit warmer. So, let’s say they are fed up with food. What will you do?
Well, you might wait a little, and then follow my tip. First of al, on the wire attach only small baits and use only small hooks. Why? Because there might have left a few hungry fish, which regular, are the smallest ones. Also try using shorter traces to give the baited hook a quicker movement in the water and add a 5cm length of lumo tubing and lumo beads to the trace.
Even if the hook will have flies, it’s recommended to put also a little bait in order to increase your chances. Assure that it stays steady on the hook because you will move it in the water and you wouldn’t like to loose it and feed for nothing other fish because your chances of getting any fish will decrease very much. Also, the advantage of using 2 types of baits is that if one of them gets stolen, you will still have the other one and your loss won’t be so big.
Finally, the last tip I’ll give you is to use a little longer wire than usually. Why? Because, as I was saying, during winter fish stays down in the water. If the wire will be to short, they won’t be able to se it, and if the bait will be to long, the fish won’t se it anymore. So, in order to have success, you have to inform yourself about the place where you are going to fish, or at least, test the water for yourself. No! Don’t jump in the water. If you are in a boat, attach to a wire some weight, put it on the water and see how far it goes down. This way, you’ll be able to see how deep the water is and also, you’ll be able to set your hooks properly.
