Save Money on Your Medical Expenses
You shouldn’t have to put a price on your health. Sadly, many people do in this day and age. They go without medicine or medical care because they can’t afford it. What they don’t realize is that there are ways you can learn to save money on your medical care. Doctors and other medical professionals are also eager to help you if you have a problem paying your medical bills. Don’t be shy, speak up if you have a problem paying your medical expenses.
Many prescription medicine companies today offer special programs for low-income people who simply can’t afford their medicine. This is a good thing to investigate if your doctor has put you on medicine that you can’t afford. Ask your doctor or health care provider for more information. You can also ask your pharmacist for more information. Most of these programs are determined by income eligibility and other factors.
Ask doctors for samples of medication, especially for antibiotics or short-term medications. If a doctor puts you on a medicine for a short period of time, ask them if they have a sample they can give you. Many times, they have samples and will be glad to give them to you. Doctors often have samples of prescription medicine that they can give to their patients when they prescribe this medication. This can save you the expense of filling a prescription.
If you are having trouble paying your medical bills, ask your doctor if they will take a sliding scale. Paying on a sliding scale means that you would pay less because of your income or circumstances. Many doctors will cut your bill in some way if you ask. You may have to provide information about your income for the billing office to qualify.
No one should go without medical insurance, anything can happen. If you can’t afford insurance, apply for Medicaid. Medicaid is available for everyone if your income level is approved. If your income level is too high – look for professional associations that serve your chosen career and see if they offer health insurance (many do) at a reduced rate. Often this reduced rate is 100 – 300% cheaper than buying insurance on your own from an insurance company.
Your health is very much your wealth and you should do everything you can to protect it. Fortunately, there are ways you can reduce your medical bills so you’ll always have access to excellent care.
