The best portable snacks for people on the move
It seems like one of the most challenging things about dieting is finding healthy snacks when you are on the go. A great idea is to actually bring them with you. But some snacks are just more portable and easier to bring with you than others. These snacks are healthy and great for dieters. Try these snacks when you have to have something on the go and want to be sure to stick to your diet.
Fresh fruit. This is one of the most popular on the go portable snacks for dieters. Fresh fruit is most often less than 100 calories a serving and is low in calories, high in fiber and high in natural sugar. This is the perfect snack if you long for something sweet but filling. A piece of fruit is easy to carry as its skin will protect it when you carry it in your bag or purse. Some of the most popular fruits to carry around are oranges, bananas, apples and pears.
Yogurt. This is a great snack, perfect for getting a serving of dairy when you need a snack. It can also serve as a light lunch if you are truly on the go and don’t have time to stop. Add a piece of chopped fruit and some chopped nuts and a spoonful of honey to make this a very hearty snack or a light lunch. Yogurt is very good for your digestion with healthy bacteria. Yogurt comes in many flavors. Dieters will do well to eat either nonfat or low fat yogurt.
String cheese and grape tomatoes. If you want a snack that is easy to carry, you just can’t go wrong with string cheese. This is also a snack that kids love – so if you need something to pack for your children this is an ideal choice for both you and your children. A low fat string cheese often has about 80 calories and is well protected in its own wrapper. About two string cheeses would give you a serving of dairy. Pair this with a handful of grape tomatoes to add a serving of veggies to your snack.
Animal crackers. Sometimes you just long for something sweet, like a cookie. An excellent choice is a child’s sized box of animal crackers. These are lower in sugar than most other types of cookies. A box of animal crackers has less calories than most cookies. Packing a box of animal crackers means that you have this portion controlled. Most often this will keep your sweet snack to about 150 calories and very low in fat.
Pretzels. This is an ideal snack for someone that wants a little crunch. Pretzels don’t have any fat in them. There are many different types of pretzels, from different types of rods, looped pretzels and mini pretzels. They each taste a little different.
