As time goes on Apple’s iPhone just keeps getting more and more popular.  It’s popularity can be traced to a number of factors, from its great design, easy to use functions, the Apple branding or perhaps most importantly, it’s incredible versatility.

The versatility of the phone is dependent on one of the best decisions Apple have made – to allow the development of the applications of the iPhone to be open – allowing anybody and everybody with the technical know how to create a application for it.

So if the phone is so versatile what can the phone be used for?  Well the uses are huge, but heres a quick look at 6 of the best.

1.    Mobile Email

Many people work away from their desks a lot, and so miss numerous time sensitive emails.  This can lead to a reliance on PA’s and other workers to monitor what is urgent and what is not for them, often leading to mistakes.

The Apple iPhone has a tremendous use as a mobile email client – able to connect to the Microsoft Exchange server and access your email from anywhere it can get web connection.  Perfect for anyone who is wary of missing emails but doesn’t want people to access their accounts.  Though it might have people wondering about what sort of dodgy emails you are hiding!

2.    Cheating on pub quiz’s

Come on, don’t act like you haven’t been tempted.  A sneaky text to a person here, a quick flick through WAP there.  The iPhone makes it even easier to cheat on the pub quiz, using its full 3G Internet connection to access the web as well as you would from any computer.  The full knowledge of the Internet is at your fingertips.  Don’t use it for real exams though.

3.    RSS Reader/time killer

RSS is fast becoming the worlds favorite way of keeping up to date with websites and online news sources, but it can be a pain to keep tabs on all the top sites.  But with the iPhone you can access your RSS reader at anytime, so when you are bored on the train, bus or even ‘elsewhere’ you can catch up on your favorite websites easily.

4.    Annoying people

I’m sure everyone reading this has wanted to wind someone up at some point.  The iPhone brings a whole new world of annoyance right to your fingertips.  You can access any annoying songs or YouTube videos that are on the Internet and play them over the loud speaker.  Very annoying, very fast.

5.    An MP3 player

The iPhone has Apple technology remember, the same company that makes the universally acclaimed iPod.  It gives access to the full database of Apple MP3 songs (iTunes) and works very well and cleanly as an MP3 player, great for not having to take too many gadgets with you.  Unless you like wearing a gadget belt and pretending it’s as cool as Batman’s, in which case go right ahead and take both.

6.    As a mobile phone

Somehow this gets left out of plenty of lists when it comes to the iPhone, but it actually works very well as a mobile phone.  The call quality is good and texting is very easy.  It seems that the iPhone can actually work as a mobile phone.  Who’d have thought it?
