Tips to Lower Special Event Expenses
Let’s face it: birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, christenings and other special events will continue to happen – whether we are in a recession or not. Families are going to want to celebrate these special occasions to the best of their ability. But special events can often be costly. It is important to know exactly where to cut corners with your special event, in ways that your guests won’t notice as much. This will help you continue to have a memorable and wonderful special event.
Always remember that Saturday evening is the most expensive time to hold a special event. You have other alternatives such as Friday night, Saturday afternoon and even Sunday afternoon. That Saturday evening time is most likely going to cost you much more for your special event – and guests simply won’t notice a difference. Try holding a lunchtime event or even a Friday evening event instead. You can still have a beautiful event just at a different time.
Flowers in season are much less expensive than flowers that have to be “brought in.” We live in a world where flowers are actually flown in from other countries for special events. This perk used to be reserved for celebrities and the elite – but is now done for anyone that has a special event. But those flowers can cost you a pretty penny, more like many, many dollars. Your best bet is to go with flowers in season in your region – those flowers will be plentiful and the least expensive. Try adding candles for a great effect and to lessen the number of flowers you’ll need.
Sometimes “doing it yourself” actually costs you more money than it is worth. Many people that want to save money decide to do things themselves. Brides will decide to make their own wedding favors, spending hours and lots of money on supplies. What they don’t realize is that most wedding favors have become inexpensive enough that when you add in the cost for the hours you put in, your project usually winds up costing more! Only “do it yourself” when that sounds like something fun – or when you are very skilled at something and know you can do it easily. So if you are a skilled baker, then do bake your wedding cake. Otherwise, look for an inexpensive option you can purchase.
Electronic invitations are not just inexpensive, they are convenient and eco-friendly. Many that hold special events are turning to services like E-vite to send out their invitations. They can easily manage their special event guest lists from these websites for no charge. You can send out reminders to guests who have not R.S.V.P’d or just call them. Using a service like this can cost much less than the cost of printing invitations and the added postage.
